If you've just gotta know more about hex codes and HTML colors, check out "A Quick Color Explanation" at HTML Goodies.  He's explained it about as clearly as anyone I've read.  So, click here and get educated!

One more thing!  I've added an asterisk (*) to all the non-dithering, web-safe color codes, just so you know which ones they are.  These are the colors that show up the same on every computer no matter what (or so I've been told).

What I've got here are almost two thousand colors using hex codes.  I hope they will be useful to anyone who is struggling to find that perfect or complimentary color to use at their web site.  Now, from what I understand, not all browsers can read all colors, so please preview the colors you choose to make sure that they have "translated" properly to your browser.  I don't claim to be an expert at this but I've enjoyed playing with the hex codes and coming up with the variety of colors that I have.

Why not use a color picker?  Well, you could make it easy on yourself and use Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.  Many software tools will give you the color component values as well as the hex code, but in case you don't have these tools, I hope my codes and the hexadecimal chart below will be useful when tweaking your colors ever just so.

What is a hexadecimal system?  It's a number system based on 16 instead of 10 as our regular number system is.  In this way we can accomodate large coded numbers using only six digits and thus create a wide variety of colors.  How many colors?  I started to calculate that out, but hmm...math was never my strong suit, so let's just say it's a LOT!!  I think publishing the number has generated more email to me than anything else at this site, so I'm gonna let it go at that!  Hehe!

The hexadecimal color codes are arranged by a color's red, green and blue color components.  These components are arranged like this: #rrggbb to make up the hex code for any color.  By using a color picker tool, you can find out the numeric color values of any color.  Find the hexadecimal equivalents on the chart below, put them in the rrggbb order and you've assembled a hex code for that color!
Below is a table of color value numbers and their hexadecimal equivalents.
